Exercise 22: Matching statements

Instructions

Use each statement once

Read the texts 7-14 and the statements A-J. Decide which hotel matches what you want.

There are TWO extra statements which you do not need to use.

Statements

  1. to stay in a stylish hotel with good service and to eat out, without using public transport.
  2. to do some exercise at your hotel. You also want to have a meal in your room and relax for the evening.
  3. a room in a traditional hotel with facilities for your two children and need help with ideas for what to do.
  4. to stay in a hotel in the city centre and to have breakfast before leaving by public transport.
  5. to stay somewhere cheap and with nightlife nearby. You hope to make friends with other travellers.
  6. to stay in a hotel which offers safari tours.
  7. to stay in an inexpensive hotel in the city centre. You want to shop and enjoy nightlife.
  8. a hotel which is situated in Tokyo.
  9. a hotel not far from the airport, newly designed and has an excellent restaurant and gym. It must welcome guests all day.
  10. a peaceful hotel which is not along the main road although it doesn't offer a good meal service.

Hotels

T-Hotel

This small central hotel is hidden away in a quiet side street. It is full of character and popular with families and business travellers, but it does not offer luxury service. Unlimited coffee is available in the morning, but there is no full meal service. Food stores are close by.

Mars Hotel

Hotel Mars is located on one of the main streets, close to tourist attractions, theatres and restaurants. The luxury rooms are beautifully furnished with antiques. An excellent breakfast is served in the top-floor restaurant, which also offers spectacular evening views over the city.

Odeon

This is an inexpensive hotel in a very smart area of the city. Nightlife is nearby, but you will need a taxi to reach it. Rooms are comfortable but simple. Breakfast is average, but there are many shops and cafes nearby.

Hotel Haussman

This friendly 19th-century hotel is next to the city museum. Old-fashioned furniture and iron balconies give it a warm atmosphere. There is a games room for children and helpful staff who provide ideas about local attractions.

Windmill Hotel

A medium-priced hotel surrounded by artists' studios, lively bars and food shops. It is in the middle of the city with an underground station nearby. Breakfast is available downstairs, or coffee and rolls can be brought to your room.

Stark's

A modern designer hotel with stylish interiors. It is half an hour by bus from the city centre or airport. The hotel has a top-class restaurant and gym. Reception is open 24 hours a day.

Hi-tech Hotel

A very cheap hotel popular with backpackers. Guests book online and check in using machines. Breakfast comes in boxes, and guests sleep in small cabins. There is a lively club next door, making it easy to meet other travellers.

Archway Hotel

This 19th-century hotel is in a busy area full of restaurants. It has a modern fitness centre and comfortable rooms. There is no restaurant, but hot food can be ordered from the takeaway next door.
